MORE PICTURES ON VIEW
18th April 2012 - 0 comments
Hi there. I have seven images on display in the Art Gallery at Wolds Village from Friday 20th April until Wednesday 16th May, so please pop along to see them if you can. If you like what you see there is a comments book for you to record your views (and I suppose you can use it for unfavourable views too, it's a free country!). And feel free to make any comments within this site too.

I've been out and about hauling my camera around in the Wolds (Hockneyland!) recently and some of the weather conditions - sun, rain, clouds, sun, rain (you get the picture) - have been ideal for landscape pics. No excuses then! Have sent some films to the lab so will see what the transparencies look like and hopefully scan a few to upload here.

Enjoy the countryside!
THE NIGHT JOE CORNISH CAME TO STAY
27th March 2012 - 0 comments
Yes, honest!
My club, the Viewfinder Photographic Society, organised a very special evening last Thursday when Joe came and gave an illustrated talk entitled 'A Landscape Photographer's Point of View' in the Civic Hall, Cottingham, East Yorkshire. It was a great success with all 250 seats sold, and more too if the fire regs would have allowed.

Incidentally, the club focus column in Photography Monthly this month features the VPS. What a memorable month March has been for us, and the club goes from strength to strength.

After that slight digression, back to Joe Cornish. We had already arranged for him to stay at our house (and my wife Terry had bought new bedding, towels, seat covers, door mat, and had been out sweeping the lane clean - after all it isn't every day a celeb comes to stay) as he was travelling further south to Letchworth for another gig on Friday night.

When we got back to ours on Thursday we attacked a bottle of wine and spent an agreeable time chattering about all sorts, before turning in at 1.00am. Friday morning felt like breakfast at a very superior B&B as the choices were as varied as Waitrose (or was it Fortnum & Mason...) would allow. We plumped for warm croissants, butter and marmalade. Joe said: "Lovely, at home we only have croissants as a special treat" to which I replied "So do we!"

He's a top gent and a really nice bloke, and last week will live long in the memory. Even though the lane is looking a bit dusty again.
ANOTHER ONE GONE!

Went to the preview evening last Friday for the Open Exhibition at Ferens Gallery in Hull and it was very well attended with the Lord Mayor and other dignitaries there. There are a wide range of exhibits (I'm not talking about the Lord Mayor and his entourage here), so whatever your taste there is bound to be something for you.

There were over 1400 works submitted and only 420 accepted, so I am delighted to have two out of three selected (will have to try harder and go for the full house next year!)

And within 24 hours of the exhibition opening to the public ONE OF MY IMAGES HAS SOLD! Great news - must be pricing them too low.

Cheers for now!
STOP PRESS! ANOTHER EXHIBITION
07th February 2012 - 0 comments
My blogs seem to be like London buses. Just got a letter today from Hull City Council advising that two out of the three pictures I submitted for their annual Open Exhibition have been accepted. Deep joy!

The exhibition is at Ferens Art Gallery, Victoria Square, Hull HU1 3RA and runs from Saturday 11th February until Sunday 15th April. It is a major event in the artists calendar and attracts a great display of paintings, sculpture and photography, i.e. well worth a visit.

My two images are both taken in the East Riding, taking advantage of Hockney-mania! but are black and white rather than Hockney-colour. They can be viewed here and here.

Talking of David Hockney, we (my wife Terry and I) have secured tickets for his blockbuster exhibition at the Royal Academy in London and will be going next month. Can't wait to see all those huge paintings of this hidden gem of countryside. Even if the exhibition and all its recent publicity causes a stampede of curious visitors to East Yorkshire, and the Wolds in particular, I think there will still be enough room to snap away undisturbed.

Mind how you go in the fog and snow.
SALES SUCCESS!

Wow! The photograph I have had in the East Riding Art Exhibition at the Beverley Art Gallery (the exhibition finished last weekend) has been bought by some kind person (who obviously knows a thing or two about art!!). Not only that, but two other people also wanted to buy it too! So I will be producing more prints and frames.

If you would like to see it you can click here.

Thank you kind folk!
ACCEPTED FOR EAST RIDING ART EXHIBITION
29th November 2011 - 0 comments
Good news! I have had my entry (only one allowed per artist) accepted for the Annual East Riding Open Art Exhibition in the Beverley Art Gallery.
The exhibition opens on Thursday 2nd December and runs until 4th February 2012. My image is a black & white panoramic view from Latrigg in the Lake District, looking over Keswick, Derwent Water and the north-eastern fells. I will be uploading it to the site soon, together with other recent panos.
Keep smiling!
SHORTLISTED IN PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR COMP!
04th November 2011 - 0 comments
Boasting time! (although the shortlist isn't the same as winning, so it's only a wee boast). I entered the Outdoor Photography magazine Photographer of the Year 2011 competition in two categories (At the Waters Edge and British Landscapes) and reached the shortlist in both, for which I am highly delighted.
Judging has still to be completed, so I don't know which of my pics reached that stage (I entered three in each category), but will post that info when known, and will also upload the images.
Meantime, happy snapping!
WOLDS VILLAGE WINTER EXHIBITION
04th November 2011 - 0 comments
I will be displaying two new panoramic images in this exhibition at The Gallery on the Wolds, which runs from Friday 18th November until Wednesday 18th January. Although the theme is 'Open' my photographs are both Yorkshire scenes. I hope you will visit at some time (for details how to get there see the previous News item).
Incidentally, both images were in my submission to the Outdoor Photographer of the Year competition - see previous News item.
Good health.
EXHIBITING MYSELF AGAIN
20th July 2011 - 0 comments
I have two prints hanging in the Summer Open Exhibition at The Gallery on the Wolds (for details of this interesting place see the previous news item). The exhibition runs from 15th July until 7th September, and the theme is "Yorkshire".
Please have a look if you are thereabouts during the long hot summer we are bound to have. It's a nice place to go even if it's wet!
Keep smiling!
PRINTS ON DISPLAY
06th June 2011 - 0 comments
I will be showing a selection of my framed prints at The Gallery on the Wolds, Wolds Village, Bainton, near Driffield YO25 9EF from Friday 17th June until Wednesday 13th July. If you are near the area, or passing by, please pop in and see them.
Wolds Village is well worth a visit anyway, as there is a craft/gift shop and cafe serving delicious food and drinks, as well as the gallery.
Please let me know what you think of my work by leaving a comment here (asking for trouble!).
Cheers for now!
Pinholes From The Edge!
11th May 2011 - 0 comments
From the windy edge of land that is, where the North Sea meets Yorkshire. Yes, some more pinhole pics have been added, and these ones are in glorious colour! Which basically means longer exposure times and blurry clouds as they zip by to some other place. I hope you enjoy, and if you do, feel free to leave a comment.
LONG & THIN
25th February 2011 - 0 comments
Well! Not 24 hours old and some additions already. It won't last I promise you, novelty-value-syndrome only.
Anyway, I have added some vertical panoramas in various portfolios - just type vertical into the search box to bring them up if you are looking for something to hang at the top of the stairs.
Cheers!
BLAST OFF!

Well at last, after years of promising/threatening to open my own website, here it is, warts an' all! No doubt there will be changes made as I learn how to do things right that I have currently done wrong, so I am resigned to the fact that the site will be constantly evolving.
You can help me with this process. If you experience any problems when viewing my various pages, or have any other suggestions to make, please add a comment. No prizes for any suggestions that are adopted I'm afraid, just my grateful thanks.
